毎年米MTVが主催するミュージック・ビデオの祭典「2020 MTV Video Music Awards（MTV ビデオ・ミュージック・アワード）」のノミネーションが発表された。
音楽界で注目の同アワードは毎年8月に開催され、今年は8月30日にニューヨークのブルックリンにあるバークレイズ・センターにて開催される予定だ。新型コロナウイルスの影響により、無観客で行う可能性があり、また観客ありでも人数を制限するだろうとニューヨーク州知事のアンドリュー・クオモ氏は明かしている。
そんな中、「2020 MTV Video Music Awards」のノミネーションが発表された。
最多ノミネートを果たしたのはレディー・ガガとアリアナ・グランデで9部門だ。レディー・ガガとアリアナ・グランデは、ガガの最新アルバム「クロマティカ」からのコラボ楽曲「レイン・オン・ミー」がビデオ・オブ・ザ・イヤーやソング・オブ・ザ・イヤー、また振り付け賞など様々な賞にノミネート果たし、またアリアナはジャスティン・ビーバーとのコラボ曲「スタック・ウィズ・ユー」もノミネートを果たしている。
続いてビリー・アイリッシュが6部門でノミネート。「Everything I Wanted」がビデオ・オブ・ザ・イヤー、ソング・オブ・ザ・イヤーなど注目の部門でノミネートを果たしている。
他にもザ・ウィークエンドが6部門、テイラー・スウィフト5部門、ドレイク4部門、ジャスティン・ビーバー4部門、ダベイビー4部門、フューチャー4部門と、人気アーティストたちが勢ぞろいだ。
また今年は新型コロナウイルスの影響もあり、自粛期間中の自宅からのパフォーマンスを評価するベスト・くアランティーン・パフォーマンスといった部門や、ベスト・ミュージック・ビデオ・フロム・ホームという部門も新たに誕生している。
